[Week 8]

Sound of Rain

I thought about the connection between me and the sound. What is the sound that I'm most interested in? About three years ago, there was a time when I was reluctant to come outside. But even when I was living in the house, I would come outside and listen to the sound of rain on rainy days. Just as the sound of water flowing brought me comfort, the sound of rain served to wash away all my anxiety. On rainy days, I still collect the sound of rain by taking videos.

These days, I feel anxious because of many things to do. I felt the anxiety washed away as I arranged the videos of rain. If I have to make a piece with one sound, wouldn't rain sound be a good material? I think I should think more about the sound of rain and what I feel these days, the link between the two.

What can express my feelings best? Medicines that support my mood these days? A flood of assignments? What can be visually incorporated into the sound of rain?

Ouvir ASMR

Post Synchronization Recording

After last class, I searched about post synchronization recording and I found a YouTube channel called "Ouvir ASMR". She records sounds on the video and when she records the sounds, she uses things that we can found easily on our everyday life. For example, she smashes pumpkins to express the sound smashing capture. Her works make me focus on the sound that I can find in my daily life and find similar sounds with them.

I used TTS Sound to compose my video work and i thought I need to find some ways make TTS sound(or computer sounds) special. And Finally I found this video! The sound of this video is made with the sound effects of a game called "Among Us". Making an artwork like this is maybe difficult, but I learned that the sound of computer can be a source of artwork.

Field Trip: MMCA Cheongju-Conservator C's Day

It was an exhibition about exhibition. As a person who want to be a curator, I always felt curious about the people make exhibitions and maintain artwork alive. And exhibition "Conservator C's Day" expanded my view to the space beyond the wall of museum. Especially the works of Zero Lab showed me the concrete information through photography and installation works. It was so valuable time and if I have a chance I want to go MMCA Cheongju to visit this exhibition again.

[Week 6]

There is a sound that began to irritate my ears. I didn't care about the sound during the vacation but as the semester begun it became noise. The sound of a cat's water purifier that I leave on when I can't care about the cat starts in the kitchen and resonates throughout the house. The sound of the dripping water from the cat's water purifier was like music when I was free and helped me relax. But as the lecture began, the sound of water falling turned into noise. When I had to concentrate, the sound of water in the whole house became a distraction. When I'm too busy to care about my surroundings, it feels like it's not making any noise. It reminds me of the saying that everything was up to one's mind.

While recording sounds on the iPhone and listening to the sound of water dripping throughout the editing using the program, I recalled the media art I had seen at a museum. Media art, which was seen at the Seosomun Shrine History Museum, contains the sound of water flowing. If the sound I heard in the media art flows all over the house, would I think it was noise, too?

Sometimes the sound of water flowing brings me memories. The water flowing from the cat water purifier sometimes reminds me of the stream I played in my childhood. But when I have a lot of work to do, I don't even have time to dwell on my memories, so I often dismiss them as useless. Wouldn't the sound of water dripping have the same context? There's so much work to do that I think is more important to me that I'm treating the sound of bringing back memories as noise.

To define this sound in three keywords, it would be noise, memories, and thoughts. Because this sound can be both a noise and a memory depending on what I think.
